Fort Detrick To Host Community Open House

FORT DETRICK, Md. - Fort Detrick invites the community to an Open House event in celebration of Armed Forces Day on May 21 from noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Nallin Pond Recreation Area on the installation.

The event hosted by Maj. Gen. Brian C. Lein, commanding general of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command and Fort Detrick, will highlight the work that occurs on post every day.

The event will be free and open to the public. To gain access to the Open House, attendees must enter through the Opossumtown Pike gate.

The event will include a 5K Fun Run, equipment displays, interactive science presentations, tactical demonstrations, a mobile museum, obstacle courses and inflatables, food and multiple contests against Soldiers –including a rucksack relay race, push up, sit up and chin up contests.

The sequence of events includes:

• 12 p.m. - Activities Open
• 12-1 p.m. - Registration for 5K opens
• 12:45 and 3:45 p.m. - Post Tours
• 1 p.m. - 5K Fun Run
• 1, 2 and 3 p.m. - Butterfly Way Station Tours
• 2:15 and 2:45 – Chapel Choir Performances
• Every Hour on the Hour - Soldier Fitness Events
• 2:15 and 3:15 - Tactical Demonstrations
• 5 p.m. - Event Ends

***Service Member Attire: ACUs and PT for the 5K run
