Announcements
We are open the 1st Saturday of each month. Hours 0900-1200. Consignments 0900-1100.
Saturday openings are: 03 Aug 13, 07 Sep 13, 05 Oct 13, 02 Nov 13, 07 Dec 13.
All consigned items expire on a Friday at 1500 and must be picked up before COB or they become Thrift Shop Property, with the exception of 27 March, 27 November, and 18 December which are Wednesdays.
Seasonal items:
*Easter items can start being consigned on Feb. 19th and must be picked up by COB on Weds. March 27th.
*Fall and Halloween items can start being consigned on Sept. 10th. Halloween items must be picked up by COB on Friday, Nov. 1st.
*Christmas items can start being consigned on Nov. 5th and must be picked up by COB Wednesday, Dec 18th.
Seasonal items not picked up by COB on these dates will become Thrift Shop Property.
For Our Customers
The Thrift Shop at Fort Detrick plays a unique and important role in generating funds to be used in support of military families, military community organizations, and for the general welfare of the Fort Detrick community.
The Thrift Shop is a private non-profit organization on the Fort Detrick installation and offers the general public a convenient place to purchase personal or household items at a reasonable price, as well as, accept monetary contributions and/or items as donations. Authorized personnel (military, retired military, civilian employees, retired DoD civilians, contractors and Fort Detrick volunteers) may consign items at the Thrift Shop. The Thrift Shop collects income from commissions on the sale of items placed on consignment, the sale of donated items, fees charged for consigning items, donations, Nallin Pond prints, Fort Detrick ornaments and White House ornaments.

For Our Consignors
Consignments are accepted from active duty and retired military and their families, Fort Detrick employees and families, and contractors working at Fort Detrick.
First time, new consignors MUST have an appointment to set up an account, describe our procedures and assist in processing the first consignment. Cost for establishing a new account is $5.00 (one-time). Items for consignment may be brought to this appointment. The consignment fee for each contract sheet of items (14 items per sheet) is $1.00. Consignors may bring an unlimited number of items daily. All clothing must be on hangers which may be picked up at the Shop.

Please note: Consignors are responsible for picking up monthly consignment checks at the Shop. We do not call individual consignors. Checks will be mailed only if you provide stamped, self addressed envelopes. Checks are void after 90 days and will not be reissued.
Thrift Shop does not accept microwave ovens, mattresses, computers, televisions or exercise equipment.

Volunteer
Spend a few hours a week as a volunteer. Assist consignors, mark down items, sort donations... and meet some wonderful people. Hours are available Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday. Call 301-619-2289 for information or visit the Shop.

Thrift Shop at Fort Detrick Grant Request [PDF]

The Thrift Shop offers monetary grants to organizations and programs that will use the funds to enhance the general welfare of the Fort Detrick community. Approval of a Thrift Shop grant is based on a recognized need for funds to assist with the efforts of the organization/program. A Thrift Shop grant may be obtained by completing an electronic or hard copy Thrift Shop at Fort Detrick Grant Request [PDF]. Requests for grants will be presented in writing, by the Chairman, at scheduled board meetings for approval. Requests may be considered by the Board at other times on a case-by-case basis.
Complete information must be provided. Include a justification of why the applicant representing the organization/program is requesting assistance. Grants DON'T have to be paid back! This money is not a loan.

Thrift Shop at Fort Detrick Offers Scholarships
The Thrift Shop Scholarship Committee is awarding The Thrift Shop at Fort Detrick Scholarship and the Julie Parker Scholarship. Both scholarships are $1000.00. Selection will be based on overall scholastic achievement, leadership ability, and good citizenship.
Applications are available at Thrift Shop, Bldg S-11, Porter Street, Fort Detrick; the Army Continuing Education System (ACES), Building 1520, Fort Detrick; and all Frederick County high school guidance offices.
Completed applications can be hand delivered or mailed to the Army Continuing Education System (ACES), ATTN: Scholarship Committee, 1520 Freedman Drive, Suite 200, Fort Detrick, MD 21702-9226. Deadline for receipt of the application is 08 March 2013 (Hand delivered by 4:30 p.m. to ACES or postmarked).
