Fort Detrick, in partnership with several community volunteers, civic organizations, and local businesses, hosted the fourth annual Wounded Warrior BBQ at Nallin pond.   More than 400 people came out to meet the Service Members and enjoy a day of perfect weather. Socializing, great food and music, face painting, moon bounces, pony rides, antique Motel T cars, a Light Armored Vehicle, motorcycles, fresh squeezed lemonade, iced tea and cold beverages made the event memorable for guests of all ages.

Congratulations ‘Strong Beginning’ Class 2012!!  The Forest Glen/Silver Spring Child Development Center Strong beginning class held their 3rd commencement ceremonies on June 8 at the FG Sports Complex.

After a year of one tough competition after another, and winning each along the way, Staff Sgt. Craig Wayman, an emergency management medic from the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, Fort Detrick, Md., was named Noncommissioned Officer of the Year by the U.S. Army Medical Command during a ceremony held in San Antonio, Texas, June 8.

Despite hot weather, health concerns and a 184-mile bike ride, two members of the Fort Detrick community plan to participate in the Great Bicycle Tour of the C&O Canal to raise money for the San Mar Children’s Home in Boonsboro, Md. from July 14-17.

Sailors from Naval Medical Logistics Command volunteered and were on hand with spectators from around the nation and other countries Wednesday, June 13 at the Baltimore Inner Harbor during the commencement of the weeklong commemorative celebration of the War of 1812 affectionately coined the Star-Spangled Sailabration.
