A grueling 200 mile team building fitness event will happen June 2, 3 and 4, 2011. The event known as Tom's Run Relay, is held annually to promote fitness, team building, and community has been given the nickname, America's longest fun run.

Fort Detrick leadership recognized employee community volunteer efforts at a ceremony here April 7.

Volunteers accrued more than 20,600 hours over the course of the year with an individual and mission partner becoming the inaugural winners of the Community Outreach award.

“The National Terrorism Advisory System”

Did you hear that effective April 20, the National Terrorism Advisory System, or NTAS, replaced the color-coded Homeland Security Advisory System?

This new system will more effectively communicate information about terrorist threats by providing timely, detailed information to the public, government agencies, first responders, airports and other transportation hubs, and to the private sector.

Several Fort Detrick employees and organizations were honored Friday May 6 in Baltimore by the Federal Executive Board for their efforts in public service.

The Federal Executive Board awards are one way this service is recognized.  Excellence in service is nothing new at Fort Detrick, where employees strive to maintain and improve this Sustainable Community of Excellence by contributing their suggestions and ideas to improve the post.

Fort Detrick and Frederick County, Md. partnered to host a regional Sustainability Conference May 2.  The meeting was the first in what is planned to be a long-ranging coalition to foster comprehensive sustainability practices throughout local and federal government, local academia, health care providers, and community businesses of all sizes.

Fort Detrick’s sustainability efforts of empowering employees through its Sustainable Strategic Plan have already moved beyond the traditional environmental areas of sustainability to include a comprehensive approach to business and life activities.
