At a ceremony held March 7 at the Community Activity Center on Fort Detrick, Maj. Gen. James K. Gilman, commander of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command and Fort Detrick, and the Combined Federal Campaign of Western Maryland recognized the many volunteers who made the 2010 Combined Federal Campaign a success.

Once again Fort Detrick has been recognized by the Maryland Urban & Community Forest Committee for its urban forestation program of planting and caring for trees. For the 11th consecutive year, Fort Detrick has met the State's criteria to receive the coveted "Green PLANT" Award.

Maintenance and upgrade work will close Fort Detrick's Veterans Gate, at 7th Street and Military Avenue, to inbound traffic for 6-10 days starting March 28.  The Opposumtown Pike and Rosemont gates, open only to vehicles with DoD decals, will be open earlier in the morning, from 5 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays.

(Fort Detrick, Md.) – Independent experts with the National Research Council will meet March 21 at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center in Frederick, Md., to review the proposed site-specific risk assessment approach for the planned Medical Countermeasures Test and Evaluation Facility at Fort Detrick, Md. The public is invited to comment.

Fort Derick honored two outstanding employees Feb. 23, during the annual Federal Executive Board awards ceremony.  

Rita M. Walker, Chief of the Personnel and Administration Branch of the Air Force Medical Operations Agency, Medical Logistics Division, was recognized as the FEB Woman of the Year, and Capt. James Huston, Forest Glen Fire and Emergency Services, as the FEB Man of the Year.  

This year Fort Detrick's higher and subordinate commands nominated 33 people to the Federal Executive Board Career Service Awards program.   

Walker and Huston were selected for their dedication and service to the installation and community.
