The Exceptional Family Member Program serves family members of all active duty personnel from birth to age 21 who have a special need or disability, and is a mandatory enrollment program under Army Regulation 608-75.

The Soldier For Life - Transition Assistance Program provides transitioning services to Soldiers who have completed at least 180 days of continuous active duty service. SFL-TAP consists of comprehensive three-day workshops at selected IMCOM installations worldwide. Professionally-trained facilitators from state employment service offices, military family support services, the Department of Labor and Department of Veterans Affairs present the workshops.

The Department of Defense Blast Injury Research Program Coordinating Office hosted the NATO Human Factors and Medicine - 270 Research Task Group meeting in Frederick, Maryland, Jan. 10-12.

Explosive weapons are a continuing source of casualties in NATO operations. The spectrum of operational scenarios involving these blast threats is broad, and includes both mounted and dismounted operations. A novel approach is required to rapidly design and test protection systems that can mitigate or prevent blast injuries.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. Even though this was a busy time of the year for the chapel staff with Christmas activities, it has become one of my favorite times of the year. I must confess, Christmas used to stress me out and I did not enjoy it very much, but in recent years I have been able to relax and enjoy its meaning for me and enjoy time with family and friends.

Every Jan. 9 is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. LEAD is a way to show the men and women who risk their lives daily how much they are valued. On this day, the children of the Fort Detrick Child and Youth School Ages Services did just that.
