The U.S. Army Garrison Fort Detrick staff and Fort Detrick community bid farewell to Command Sgt. Maj. Franklin D. Jordan and welcomed Command Sgt. Maj. Marcos E. Munoz during a Change of Responsibility ceremony, July 29, at the Fort Detrick Auditorium.

During his farewell remarks Jordan thanked the Fort Detrick community for their support, enthusiasm and dedication during his two years as the senior enlisted Soldier in the U.S. Army Garrison, and said they inspired him every day, allowing him to look forward to going to work.

"If during my time here I seemed to be a giant, it was because I was standing on your shoulders," Jordan told the crowd. "Two years ago I had never heard of Fort Detrick, now it's a place I will never forget."

While thanking Jordan for his work with the command and across the installation, Col. Scott M. Halter, U.S. Army Garrison commander, said Jordan was instrumental in helping him navigate his first months on Fort Detrick.

"For the past month and a half, Command Sgt. Maj. Jordan was my trusted advisor and a tireless backbone for this garrison. He is a true Army professional, a man of character, commitment, competence and candor; everything we expect of our senior noncommissioned officers," said Halter.

Munoz arrives at Fort Detrick after a tour as the Brigade Operation Sergeant Major for the 1st Recruiting Brigade, Fort Meade, Maryland. Munoz entered the Army over 25 years ago and attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training as a Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

During his time in the Army, Munoz has held a variety of leadership positions around the world, including squad leader, Senior Mechanic, Motor Sergeant, Station Commander, First Sergeant, Battalion Operations Sergeant Major, Battalion Command Sergeant Major and Brigade Operations Sergeant Major.

In addition to his military education, Munoz is also a graduate of Excelsior College in Albany, New York, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree of Professional Studies in Business Management. He also graduated from Argosy University in Los Angeles California where he earned a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership and was inducted into the International Honor Society in Business.
