Traffic changes in store for Veterans Gate
Maintenance and upgrade work will close Fort Detrick's Veterans Gate, at 7th Street and Military Avenue, to inbound traffic for 6-10 days starting March 28.
The Opposumtown Pike and Rosemont gates, open only to vehicles with DoD decals, will be open earlier in the morning, from 5 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays.
During this time, the Old Farm Gate, off Yellow Springs Road, will serve as the primary entryway into the installation. Old Farm gate will be the 24/7 entry point during construction at Veterans Gate.
Outbound traffic will still use Veterans Gate, and pedestrians and bicyclists can come in the gate, but vehicles will be routed to other entry points.
To help relieve traffic congestion, garrison commander Col. Judith Robinson is urging commanders and directors to let employees stagger work shifts or use telework, if approved by the organization.
Please provide this information to others who have business at Fort Detrick to help avoid congestion. Let visitors know there may be delays at the gates.
The installation's emergency services directorate is working closely with city and county law enforcement agencies to monitor traffic and help minimize impact.
We are asking for the patience and cooperation of everyone as this will affect the travel of many on and off the installation.  Signs will be posted along Military and Rosemont avenues directing individuals to other entrances.
