Fall Descends on Fort Detrick
Candy Galore, Pumpkins and More

Fort Detrick welcomed the fall season with a Harvest Festival put on by the Fort Detrick Chapel, a Pumpkin Chunkin’ competition and Oktoberfest sponsored by the Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, and a Trunk or Treat event sponsored the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command and the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Agency Oct. 28 in and around the Community Activities Center.

One of the main attractions this year was the Pumpkin Chunkin competition, which drew several teams from around post. Each team was responsible for creating their own catapults to launch pumpkins. The winner of the competition was the U.S. Army Garrison Directorate of Public Works team “Simply Gourd-geous” with the furthest distance of 98 feet. Second place went to the Joint Vaccine Acquisition Program with their catapult “Pulex” and a launch of 91 feet 3 inches. Third place went to team “Licensed to Quill” of the Staff Judge Advocate Office with their catapult “Pumpkin Punisher” with a distance of 83 feet 4 inches.

A special performance from the Fort Detrick cheerleading team topped off the fun-filled evening.
