Lt. Col. Michael Jeffries, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Detrick chaplain, participated in the Great Frederick Fair Celebrity Harness Race Sept. 21 at the Frederick Fairgrounds. His driver
"Sleepy" and his horse "Ain’t got a Home" came in first place in the race — a Fort Detrick first!

"The harness race was a blast. It was a lot of fun and a privilege to represent Fort Detrick in the celebrity harness race. I was very excited to win, my inner NASCAR fan was thrilled," said Jeffries. “I hope, as silly as it may be, that it gives the folks here at Detrick something to be proud of and proud to be a part of the Detrick team.

"If I am able, I hope to defend my title next year," joked Jeffries.

Fort Detrick participates in a variety of ways each year; from putting one of our own into a harness race to highlighting the partnership with Marines from Bravo Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, stationed at Fort Detrick, Maryland. The Marines annually bring their LAV-25A2 out for Military Appreciation Day, which has always been a highlight for the crowds wanting to thank our Service Members for their service to the Nation while being able to get up close to and tour the tactical vehicle.

The U. S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command Strategic Planning Office hosted a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics booth Friday, Sept. 23, during
the Frederick County Public Schools designated Fair Day.

The Great Frederick Fair takes place each year and draws thousands of people to enjoy food, music, rides, exhibits and much more.
