Leaders, educators and elected officials from the state of Maryland visited Fort Detrick April 18 to learn about the exciting work being done on the installation and the missions that support Service Members.

The goal of the event was to strengthen the ties between the local community and Fort Detrick through education and discussion of potential collaboration.

Seventy leaders including Lieutenant Governor of Maryland Boyd Rutherford and Maryland Congressman John Delaney attended the event hosted by U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command and Fort Detrick Commander Maj. Gen. Barbara R. Holcomb.

The event included product displays, a tour of the new U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases building and the Fort Detrick Water Treatment Plant followed by a roundtable discussion with Fort Detrick leadership and subject matter experts and educators and elected officials from Maryland.

By building new and nurturing existing relationships with Maryland local, state and county leaders and educators, Fort Detrick is continuing to cultivate their successful partnership with the communities surrounding the installation.
