Whittier Elementary Flag Raising
USAG Public Affairs
With a ring of the bell and shouts of anticipation at the start of a new school year, the students of Whittier Elementary in Frederick, Maryland, gather at the front of the school as Fort Detrick Soldiers raise the school’s U.S. flag. Command Sgt. Maj. Marcos E. Munoz, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Detrick Command Sergeant Major, provided words of encouragement and shouts of “Hooah” to the students and teachers before the start of the school day.

As the crowd dispersed and children went on to their classrooms, Soldiers greeted them with high-fives as they entered the doors for their first day of the school year.

Each year, on the first and last day of school, Fort Detrick Soldiers raise and lower the U.S. flag to show their support to the local school.
