The annual Go Green Energy Conference hosted by Congressmen Roscoe Bartlett provided practical ways for people to save money use less energy and help the country transition to domestic, cleaner, and renewable energy sources on July 9 at the Frederick County Fair Grounds.

“Nine out of 10 Americans rank saving money by becoming more energy efficient as a higher priority than taking a summer vacation,” said Bartlett.

The conference provided local businesses, homeowners, and farmers across the district the chance to network about solutions to common energy needs. The Frederick Motor Company, Solar Energy World, Orion Energy Systems, the Fort Detrick Business Development Office and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development were several of the organizations represented at the conference.

"Sustainability appears to be here to stay based on the number of solar, geo, wind, and alternative fuel vendors who attended the annual Go-Green Conference here in Frederick last week.  I learned that the technologies are advancing very rapidly and that businesses can save significantly over the long run in terms of overhead and operating cost by investing in green design, energy star appliances, and renewable energy,” said Richard Griffin, Director of Economic Development and Vice-President of the Fort Detrick Alliance.

Demonstrators at the conference included the Frederick County Office of Sustainability, Instant Access Network, LLC., Frederick County Master Gardeners and Jonathan Kays of University of Maryland Extension Center. Among topics discussed were making homes and offices sustainable, starting a home garden and biomass energy and coal.

Garrison commander Col. Allan Darden and Command Sgt. Maj. Cassandra Redd attended the event as the faces of Fort Detrick.
