Parents and family members gathered April 8 at the Glen Haven Elementary School in Silver Spring, Maryland, for a Military Child Appreciation program. During the program, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Detrick Commander Col. Bob O’Brien spoke to the attendees about the unique situation military children face as they move from installation to installation, travelling the world. Approximately 140 out of 600 children that attend Glen Haven Elementary School are from military families.

Soldiers from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers also attended the event, bringing over 700 books they collected for youth of all ages, ensuring each child received a book as part of their BOSS Literacy Month Book Drive.
