Mission Statement
To provide affordable and well managed programs and services that are diversified, innovative, and focused on "well-being" to improve the family, morale, welfare, and recreation programs which directly support readiness, transformation, and the "objective force" of the future.
Responsibilities:
Primary Staff Officer for all the "Well-Being" programs. Designed to enhance morale and promote readiness, and ensure the safety of personnel, property, facilities, and environment.
Objectives:
- Support transformation.
- Support combat readiness and effectiveness.
- Support Army Family Covenant goals.
- Support recruitment and retention of quality personnel.
- Provide a quality of living comparable to that which our Soldiers and civilians are pledged to defend.
- Promote and maintain the mental and physical fitness and well-being of personnel.
- Ease the transition of individuals into military life and the relocation of personnel and accompanying family members.
- Provide facilities and programs that meet the needs of today's Soldier, family, and community.
Army Community Service (ACS)
MISSION: Assist commanders in maintaining readiness of individuals, families, and communities within America's Army by developing, coordinating, and delivering services which promote self-reliance, resiliency, and stability during war and peace.
FUNCTIONS:
Current Key Initiatives/Projects:
- Enhance program delivery to National Guard and Reserve components and installationpopulation impacted by deployments.
- Family Advocacy Program hosting training conference for regional social workers.
- Relocation Welcome Package change over to CD or DVD's.
- Army Family Action Plan fall conference/customer service initiative.
- Mobilization/Relocation Program, whether deployed or on an extended TDY, awaiting theprogram to become known as one name "Hearts Apart."
Child, Youth and School Services (CYSS)
MISSION: Enhance readiness and well-being by reducing conflict between mission requirements and parental responsibilities.
FUNCTIONS:
- Child Development Services (Child Development Center and Family Child Care Program)
- School Age Services (Before School, After School, Full Day Care, and Summer Camps)
- Youth Services (Arts, Social Leisure Recreation, Middle and Teen Program, Youth Sports, Youth Development, Summer Camps, Walk-in Program, and Partnerships)
- Education and Outreach Services (School Liaison Services, Outreach Services, Youth Education, Central Enrollment)
Fort Detrick CYSS
Current Key Initiatives/Projects:
- Working with Balfour Beatty Communities to open a Child Development Home in the fall of FY09. The Child Development Center will open a Pre-K "Strong Beginning Classroom" in the fall of 2009-2010 school year
- Working with Frederick County Public Schools on Early Childhood Education Steering Committee. Committee provides, promotes, and perpetuates quality early childhood educational practices that foster success for children birth to five.
- Resume plans and design for a new Fort Detrick Teen Center.
Forest Glen CYSS
Current Key Initiatives/Projects:
- CYSS Soldier and Family Assistance Center Liaison is working with Operation Military Kids, Yellow Ribbon, Our Military Kids, and Military Homefront to provide the best care and assistance available to the Wounded Warriors and their Families.
- School Liaison Officer is actively involved with the Montgomery County School District, Prince George's County Schools and the DC Public Schools to aid Families with School Transitions.
Business Operations Division (BOD)
MISSION: Plan, implement, and operate a DFMWR program that is sustaining and self-sufficient as possible while meeting the needs of our customers.
FUNCTIONS:
Current Key Initiatives/Projects:
- Construction of a Driving Range.
- Construction project for a new Community Activities Center.
- Construction project for a new 12-Lane Bowling Center.
- Assessment of Nallin Farm Milk Barn for conversion of building.
- Development of a FMWR Master Plan.
- New lounge at Rally Point.
Community Recreation Division (CRD)
MISSION: Plan, implement, and operate a DFMWR program that is sustaining and self-sufficient as possible while meeting the needs of our customers.
FUNCTIONS:
Current Key Initiatives/Projects:
- Promote and enhance Outdoor Recreational Activities - 10K Race, Fishing Rodeos, and High Adventure Tours.
- Capitalize on delivering various recreation opportunities at nearby civilian recreation facilities such as Baker Park.
- Install a Rock Climbing Wall System.
NAF Support Division
MISSION: Provides financial oversight for both APF and NAF budgets providing guidance and assistance in all aspects of the budgeting process. Serves as the functional proponent within the directorate on matters relating to property management and internal controls.
