Homecoming and Reunion
Dear Military Leader and Family Readiness Group Leader,
Reunion... eagerly awaited, but also anxiety provoking. Army Community Service (ACS) offers training for soldiers and families on what to expect and how to make the many adjustments that follow reunion. The Operation READY curriculum offers a series of training modules, videotapes, resource books, and even activity books for children on a broad variety of homecoming, reunion, and deployment-related topics.
The following training modules are available relating to the topics of homecoming and reunion:
Reunion Briefings (Reunion Basics and Changes in Relationships):
Designed to understand and cope with the dynamics of separation and reunion.
Reunion for Soldiers:
Designed for soldiers, it is most helpful for this training to be offered before reunion occurs so that soldiers can prepare for the challenges of reunion before returning to their loved ones.
Reunion for Families:
Designed for families, it is most helpful for this training to be offered before reunion occurs so that families can prepare for the challenges of reunion before soldiers return.
Communication Techniques:
Designed for married couples to attend together, as well as for single parents and older children. This should be offered as soon after reunion as practical so that soldiers and family members can recognize and deal with problems that may arise or persist after the soldier returns.
Reunion Stress Management:
Designed for single parents and for married couples to attend together and should be offered as soon after reunion as practical, following the Communication Techniques workshop listed above. This training is designed to help soldiers and family members recognize and deal with reunion-related problems that may arise or persist after the soldier returns.
For training assistance or additional information, please contact the ACS Outreach Coordinator at 301-619-3171 or USAGOutreach@amedd.army.mil to schedule training for your military personnel and family members.
