Thrift Shop at Fort Detrick Offers Scholarships
The Thrift Shop Scholarship Committee is awarding The Thrift Shop at Fort Detrick Scholarship and the Julie Parker Scholarship. Both scholarships are $1000.00. Selection will be based on overall scholastic achievement, leadership ability, and good citizenship.
Applications are available at Thrift Shop, Bldg S-11, Porter Street, Fort Detrick; the Army Continuing Education System (ACES), Building 1520, Fort Detrick (formerly the DCTEE); and all Frederick County high school guidance offices.
Completed applications can be hand delivered or mailed to the Army Continuing Education System (ACES), ATTN: Scholarship Committee, 1520 Freedman Drive, Suite 200, Fort Detrick, MD 21702-9226. Fort Detrick Silver Spring Child, Youth and School Services School Liaison Announces Defense Commissary Agency Scholarship Opportunity
As the celebration of the New Year takes place, it's also time to remind students to apply for the 2011 Scholarships for Military Children program.
Scholarship applications are available in Commissaries Worldwide and online at http://www.commissaries.com — choose the "News & Info" tab and then the "Scholarship Info" tab. Applications are also available at http://www.militaryscholar.org.
Only dependent, unmarried children of active-duty service members, reservists, guardsmen, retirees, or survivors of service members who died on active duty or while receiving military retired pay, may apply for a scholarship. Applicants must also be younger than 21, or 23 if enrolled as a full-time student at a college or university. Eligibility is determined using the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System database. Applicants should ensure they, as well as their sponsor, are enrolled in the DEERS database and have a current military ID card. An applicant must be planning to attend, or already be attending, an accredited college or university, full time in the fall of 2011 or be enrolled in a program of studies designed to transfer directly into a four-year program.
Applicants must also submit an essay on the following topic that answers the question: "Our nation has a goal of improving health and wellness. What are your ideas and, more importantly, how do you propose to put these ideas into action in your local community?" Applications must be turned in to a commissary by close of business Feb. 22, 2011. At least one scholarship will be awarded at every commissary with qualified applicants.

Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation Scholarship Program
Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation is accepting scholarship applications from high school and undergraduate students of our family housing residents for the 2010 - 2011 academic year. To apply for these scholarships go to the Foundation's website, bbcommunitiesfoundation.org

Army Emergency Relief (AER) offers college aid for dependent children and spouses
The MG James Ursano Scholarship Program is for dependent children of Soldiers (Active Duty, Retired and Deceased). AER's MG James Ursano Scholarship Program is for full-time students at an undergraduate, technical or vocational institution accredited by the Department of Education and is awarded annually up to four academic years. Funds may be used for tuition, books, fees, supplies or school room and board. Students may reapply each year and maintain a grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale.
A student applying for an Academic Year (AY) must be under the age of 23 for the entire AY. The applicant must be an unmarried dependent child of an active duty or retired Soldier or a Soldier who died in either status. All Soldiers and students must be registered in the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS). You can verify the student's DEERS status at 1-800-538-9552.
The AER Stateside Spouse Education Assistance Program (SSEAP) is for spouses of active duty and retired Soldiers, and widow(ers) of Soldiers who died either on active duty or in a retired status, and are residing in the United States. All spouses must be registered in the Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS) which can be verified at 1-800-538-9552. This program does not apply to second undergraduate or graduate degrees.
Scholarship awards are based on financial need and are awarded annually for up to four academic years to attend post secondary school full time as undergraduate level students. Funds are to assist with academic expenses at the attending University/School and are disbursed equally between the Fall and Spring semesters or quarters to assist with tuition, books, fees and supplies. Students must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale.
Applications must be submitted online by the term deadline date, as listed in the OSEAP instructions.

Fort Detrick Post of the Society of American Military Engineers
The Fort Detrick Post of the Society of American Military Engineers is proud to announce its fifth annual scholarship competition.
This competition is open to all full-time undergraduate students (freshman through junior) pursuing a baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, or related science, planning, or construction program at an accredited university or college (including two-year community colleges). Related science, planning, or construction programs include, but are not limited to, environmental science, chemistry, geology, biotechnology, urban planning, and construction management.

Post 9/11 GI Bill
The Post 9/11 GI Bill is a new education benefit program for individuals who served on active duty on or after September 11 2001.
- Pays the cost of tuition and fees, not to exceed the most expensive in-state undergraduate tuition at a public institution of higher learning (Paid directly to the school)
- Monthly housing allowance (Paid to student)
- Yearly book and supplies stipend of up to $1000 per year.

Military Spouse Scholarship
The National Military Family Association's Joanne Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarships range from $500 to $1,000 and are awarded to spouses of Uniformed Service members to obtain professional certification or to attend post-secondary or graduate school.
The scholarship funds may be used to assist with tuition, fees, and school room and board, and are paid directly to the accredited educational institution involved.

Veterans of the Afghanistan & Iraq Conflicts Scholarship Program (VAICSP)
The Veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq Conflicts Scholarship Program is designed to provide financial assistance to United States armed forces personnel who served in the Afghanistan or Iraq Conflicts, and their sons, daughters, or spouses who are current high school seniors, and full-time and part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate students enrolled in an eligible accredited Maryland postsecondary institution.

Hudson Trust Star Scholarship for Military Veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq Conflicts
The Hodson Trust and four MD colleges (Hood Colege, Johns Hopkins University, St. John's College and Washington College) are giving undergraduate and graduate scholarships for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. The scholarships covers 100 percenter of each of the four institution's published annual tuition, room, board, and mandatory student fees.

Frederick County's Workforce Development Board & Youth Council S.T.E.M. Educational Scholarship Program

200 Organizations Offering Scholarships for Minorities
Don't pass this one up based on its title. Applications are accepted based on a multitude of criteria to include: gender, handicap/disability, career objectives or religion. Additionally, some are event oriented (i.e. Holocaust Remembrance essays), while at least 1/3 of the scholarships being offered are from companies and organizations such as AFL-CIO, Coca Cola and Verizon.

FEEA Scholarship Program
The FEEA Scholarship is for current civilian federal employees and their dependent family members (spouse/child). Adult children relatives are eligible if claimed on the sponsoring employees tax return. Active duty military members and their dependents are eligible only through a sponsoring civilian employee spouse. Military retirees and dependents are eligible if the retiree (or retirees spouse) is a current civilian federal employee.

Ferris State University
Military Veteran Scholarship Program Application
This scholarship provides a $1000 annual scholarship, renewable for three additional years as long as the veteran continues to meet all eligibility criteria. All qualifying veterans entering as a freshman or transfer student will be eligible for the in-state tuition rate.
Grantham University Offers Scholarships to Soldiers and Family Members
Imagine America Foundation Scholarships
Since 2006, Grantham University has supported the Imagine America Foundation’s Military Award Program (MAP), a national aid program that provides a $1,000 career education award to a qualified active duty service member; reservist; honorably discharged or retired veteran of a United States military service branch for attendance at a participating college. Severely Injured Service Member and Spouse Scholarship Opportunities
Severely injured service members and their spouses have expressed an interest in an opportunity to pursue diploma and certification programs or college degrees that will help prepare them for jobs and careers while they are convalescing, when they return home and after discharge from the military. The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is the nation’s oldest and largest need-based scholarship organization supporting U.S. military families. Society of Daughters of the U.S. Army (DUSA) Scholarship Awards Program
for daughters and granddaughters of Army warrant and commissioned officers.

for dependent children of active duty current and former crew members, and retired former crew members, of USS Tennessee.
