Today's Army and civilian government workforce can now train at the Detrick Center for Training and Education Excellence (DCTEE), at home, or anywhere a computer with internet access can go. The Army has teamed up with SmartForce, a web based computer training company, that can provide the soldier with more than 800 computer based training modules. Training includes CISCO, Novell, Cobol, C++, E-Business and E-Commerce, Java, Microsoft office, A+ and MCSE, Beginning Computer, plus much more.
The Community College of West Virginia awards college credit for completing certain courses within the program. An information letter in reference to the criteria for receiving college credit is available at the DCTEE. Any questions contact the DCTEE 301-619-2854.

ASAP
Army Substance Abuse Program Presentations

Overview: ASAP presentations are approximately 1 hour long to assist Unit Commanders and Directorates in meeting the mandatory alcohol and substance abuse prevention training requirements as outlined in AR 600-85; Federal employees 2 hours annually, Military personnel 4 hours annually.
The course satisfies prevention education training required by TRADOC, Reg.350-70. Please note this training is NOT required for contractors, although they are encouraged to attend.

I. Transition Services
Career Assessment
Course Objective: Professional guidance in assessing job skills, interest values, and personality types. May be administrated electronically and used as a tool in career decision making and identifying suitable job matches.
Target Audience: For military personnel, civilians, and family members.

Veterans Administration (VA) Consultation

Course Objective: Individualized counseling and guidance in obtaining benefits and administration of application process for loans and entitlements.
Target Audience: For separating military and retirees.
II. Employment Assistance for Family Members, Military, and Civilians
Career/Job Search Counseling
Course Objective: Individualized professional assistance in developing job search skills and career assessment for pursuit of suitable careers; dealing with barriers to employment, effects of career change, relocating and transition issues, or unexpected loss of job.
Target Audience: For military personnel and family members
Resume Counseling
Course Objective: This course includes: Targeting your resume, choosing the best format, how to write each section of the resume (the career summary, job descriptions, accomplishments, education and training), preparing electronic resumes, resume composition rules, cover letters, and reference page. This course is for both those who have never written a resume and those who have and want to ensure they are using all the latest techniques.
Target Audience: All Fort Detrick Employees
III. Support for Federal Employees
Civilian Career Counseling and OF 612 Assistance
Provides individual assistance to civilian employees on dealing with job transitions and professional guidance on career growth and enhancement.

Family Advocacy

All programs are open to military and civilian employees. Participants who attend any of the classes can receive up to a 10 percent discount on their monthly childcare fees at the Child Development Center and School Age/Youth Services. Active duty military personnel may be eligible to receive credit toward promotion points fro class participation. Registration is required for all classes unless otherwise specified.
Childbirth Education and Parenting Education Classes
FMH Wellness Center will provide a variety of Childbirth and Parenting Education Classes to prepare expectant parents for the arrival of their baby and parenting. Registration is required with the Family Advocacy Office as dates and times of classes vary. Register below online or call 301-619-7171. The course is held at FSK Mall, 550 Buckeystown Pike, Frederick, Maryland 21703.

Financial Readiness Program (FRP)

Financial Readiness Classes - All Services are Available to Active Duty and Retired Military, Family Members, and DoD Civilians. All classes are held in the Community Support Center, Building 1520, Fort Detrick, Maryland. Registration is required. All classes are available to military, spouses, retirees, and civilians. Units may contact the FRP/AER Program Manager at ACS to set up an appointment for an onsite Brief at the unit's location.
The FRP office offers both mandatory and optional classes. These classes are designed to assist commanders and units in preparing soldiers for military life. Some classes are mandatory, based on guidance from Army Regulation (AR) 608-1, paragraph 4-38, page 24. Soldiers who fall within these categories should be scheduled for one of our classes. Soldiers who do not fall within these categories are welcome to attend. All attendees for mandatory classes must be signed up prior to class. Presentations can be requested for "Sergeant's Time," "NCODP," or other training functions. Family members are encouraged to attend any of the classes. Units may contact the FRP Manager at ACS to set up an appointment for an on-site class at the unit's location.

Financial Planning for 1st PCS Class
(Mandatory for junior enlisted Soldiers moving to their 2nd PCS)

Course Objective:
Provides guidance on financial preparation and planning for a PCS move.
Topics Covered:
PCS Checklist, Entitlements, Importance of Planning Your Move in Advance, Some common assumptions that may cause financial problems during a PCS move, and Useful Websites.

Personal Financial Planning Class
(Mandatory for 1st term Soldiers)

Provides training in personal financial concepts and skills, thereby increasing individual financial stability and self-sufficiency, and enhancing military readiness.
Topics Covered:
Understanding your LES, Understanding Credit Reports, Using Credit Wisely, Techniques to Become Financially Fit, Banking and Checking Accounts, Insurance, Saving and Investing, Large Purchases, Consumer Scams and Getting Help, and Current Local Financial Issues and Concerns.

Optional Financial Readiness Workshops
Insurance Training Class
Course Objective:
This course is designed to define and implement methods to become financially solvent, review methods to reduce debt, review the consequences of bad credit ratings and understanding the responsibilities and legal aspects of overextending financial obligations.

Medical Training
Combat Lifesaver Re-certification Course
Target Audience: For all active and reserve non-medical military personnel and DoD civilians currently certified as combat lifesavers whose certification period has reached or is about to reach 12 months.
Course Objective: The Combat Lifesaver Re-Certification Course is designed to validate and refresh the skills learned by non-medical soldiers in emergency medical care as their secondary mission.

ACLS Course
Target Audience: The course is designed for medical providers such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, health care specialists (68W), respiratory therapists, and other professionals who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency.
Course Objective: The American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support course is totally redesigned for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of hospital.

Airway Management Course
Target Audience: This course is for Healthcare providers whose occupation or volunteer activities require airway management skills, in addition to professionals in the field of resuscitation and airway management such as scientists, educators, researchers, and manufacturers of medical devices may find the course beneficial.
Course Objective: The American Heart Association Airway Management Course is a new and unique program specifically designed to give students the opportunity to learn, practice and demonstrate many airway skills used in resuscitation.

Combat Lifesaver Course
Target Audience: For all active and reserve non-medical military personnel and DoD civilians who will deploy to the SWA area of operations or for any active and reserve non-medical military personnel requiring to receive the training based on their Commander's Training Guidance.
Course Objective: The Combat Lifesaver Certification Course is designed to train non-medical soldiers to provide emergency medical care as a secondary mission.

Healthcare Provider CPR
Target Audience: Military active duty or reserve personnel and DoD civilians healthcare providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers with first responder responsibilities, and other allied health personnel.
Course Objective: The Healthcare Provider Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

ECG and Pharmacology Course
Target Audience: This course is for a variety of healthcare providers, including physicians, nurses, paramedics, residents, respiratory therapists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical pharmacists and ECG technicians.
Course Objective: This course is specifically designed to address a key knowledge gap in Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Pharmacology.

Target Audience: This course is for all personnel who have a duty to respond to a first aid or cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements.
Course Objective: The Heartsaver AED and First Aid course teaches what actions to take in an emergency.

Heartsaver AED
Target Audience: Military personnel and DoD civilians who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements (this includes individuals in buildings with an AED that may use it in an emergency response).
Course Objective: The Heartsaver AED Course teaches CPR, Automated External Defibrillator use, relief of chocking in adults and children, and use of barrier devices.

Transition Assistance Program (TAP)/ACAP
This 4 day course educates individuals transitioning from the military on their benefits and entitlements upon separation or retirement. Includes a resume and job search workshop. Spouses are encouraged to attend.
The course is held in Bldg 1520, Classroom 7, 0830-1630. Dress is Business Casual.
